Meeting with Mr. IIMA - part 4

" Dad's not worried, he's ok...", I said, "he was telling me you would ask a lot of questions and stuff.."   I was terribly restless by now. 'That's it I can't be bothered. I can't take it anymore!', I thought to myself....... "And he told me to discuss the future and what my plans are", I said.  Its amazing how you can just say things like that but I think that was limit of my patience. " So any more questions?", I asked him. "Questions?.."he laughed, "....this is not an interview". YES I KNOW!!! But I cant take it anymore and I'm dying to get out!!!

"Okie so I've told you about my job, future, kids (imagine discussing that with a total stranger!!).....oh and cooking!!!", I said, ignoring the little voice inside me saying Sheens enough is enough, behave yourself.
"Ok if there's a table of food out here..", I said, gesturing to the table in front of us, "...I would've cooked all the food on that but everything would be a flop!". I smiled at him. He looked confused and pretty much would've been thinking what mad lady is proud of the fact that her cooking flops? He laughed probably because he wasn't sure what else he was supposed to do.

"Okie so do you have any questions for me?" he asked. SHEENS!!!, the little voice inside me screamed, DON'T DO ANYTHING STUPID!!.....Too late!!! "Do you cook?", I asked him. (Normally that is a question the boys family asks the girl, or the boy asks the girl....I'm sure many girls of my generation have tried this stunt, I hope....)

He smiled..."Good question....", he said, "you know that's what MBA's say when they don't have an answer right?". I nodded. "I cook two dishes..." he said and he looked at me to watch my expression. I think the only thing missing on my face was a hanging jaw!

'STOP! Don't say anything more, I was just pulling your leg!!" I was screaming inside my head.

" Yea so I cook two dishes..." he said and studying my expression, which I'm sure must have been weird, he continued, ".....but my friends ask me how do you manage with two dishes, and I said, well every time I cook them, they turn out to be something different altogether."

I had enough....there was some more blah blah.I don't remember what, but I must have been distracted again, because he said, " You can call your dad now". He pretty much looked like he gave up as well. And I didn't hesitate. I called my dad immediately. They joined us after that and then it was time for the final goodbye. We all stood up to leave and he looked at me and said, "ok nice to meet you" and looked at my hands, which I kept close to me."Nice to meet you too", I said although I didn't make an effort to shake his hand!! I think he pretty much got the point....

Well a week later they (his parents) called and said they found a match for their son and they were going ahead with that proposal. So that is 'The End' of this story. And I wish him and his wife all the best for their future and may God shower them with His grace and blessings.

So why this story now you must be thinking, well firstly, like I said every time my mom mentions marriage, this incident comes to my mind and I'm not proud of it.

Secondly, its Easter time, and lent is a time where you do a lot of reflections and make reparations for the sins you've committed. So this came to mind.. and I do feel bad for doing that..

Thirdly, when I told this story to my friends who were eager to hear about it, they thought I could write about this someday. Well not this story particularly, just that they thought I could make a great story teller and I thought why not this story? I've never come across anything like this before...

So to all those people who have to go through this stage, if you have doubts about what you should be doing for a proposal, you DEFINITELY know what you SHOULD NOT be doing after having read this. Good luck to you! And guys do not try too hard to impress a girl, be yourself and if she has to be impressed, believe me, she will!! Girls and guys be yourself - but behave!!

So there you go....a page from my life.... I'm sure if Mr. IIMA were to tell the same story, he would have a different version of it. This is just my version of the story.

Anyway Happy Easter guys!!!

How do you know he/she is the ONE???

Many people are baffled by the idea of "arranged marriages". "How do you know he/she is the one from a couple of meetings you've had?", they ask me. 'Mirror mirror on the wall who is my knight in shinning armour????  How am I supposed to know???  I'm still human last time I checked!! That's when you wish some kind of magic existed in this world. Or time travel was actually possible - so you could take a sneak peek and see the "ONE" who is destined to bring you happiness, fulfillment and every other emotion, words associated with marriage bring. Anyway here's my thought. I think everyone has some idea of what his/her partner should be like. ( This is a pre- requisite for people who are thinking of arranged marriages, in case ur thinking WTF!!) If its any consolation.......you have to meet a few people before you decide he or she is the one for you. Why???? Well I think, everytime you meet a person, you learn something new about...

The ugly duckling

I think I've always been fascinated by the ugly duckling story and somewhere deep down I was sure that people will see the swan in me some day....although I had, rather still have no clue hows its going to manifest itself. For the major part of my life it never bothered me that I was ugly. I was still better than most at a lot of things, academics, dramatics, art, singing and various other activities ( well clearly I always got the chance to showcase my efforts at all these and therefore I think I'm good at them :P ) and since I had so many talents why do I need to bother with beauty - it's only skin deep right? But I guess whatever said and done I'm still a woman and it is every woman's secret wish to be that beautiful swan someday that would find her prince charming and live a happily ever story (if ever there was one! ). Or have a guy that's absolutely adores you just 'cause you are beautiful and charming and blah blah! So when a friend of mine s...
